How to print checks in QuickBooks Online

In QuickBooks Online you set up printing once (Print checks → Print setup), choose voucher or standard checks, align with a sample on plain paper, then print queued checks from Print checks → Preview and print.

Menu names follow Intuit's help article “Configure print settings for checks” (updated August 4, 2026). QuickBooks menus change from time to time.

1. Set up check printing

  1. Go to All apps → Expenses & Bills → Expense transactions.
  2. Select Print checks, then Print setup.
  3. Choose the check type: voucher (one check per page with stubs) or standard (three per page).
  4. Select View preview and print sample and print it on plain paper.
  5. Hold the sample over a blank check against the light. If it's off, continue setup and drag the grid until it matches, then Finish setup.

2. Print checks

  1. Create a check (+ New → Check) and choose to print it later, so it goes to the print queue.
  2. Open Print checks, select the queued checks and choose Preview and print.
  3. After printing, confirm which checks printed correctly. If some misprinted, pick Some checks need reprinting and enter the first check number to reprint.

Intuit's article recommends the latest Adobe Reader as your browser's PDF viewer. If alignment is still off, check the print scale in Acrobat or your printer settings: it must be 100%.

Printing QuickBooks payments on blank check stock

QuickBooks expects checks formatted for QuickBooks, which you can order from Intuit or other check printers. If you'd rather print on blank stock for every account:

  1. Export the bills you want to pay (or a vendor list) from QuickBooks to CSV or Excel.
  2. In CheckWriter.app Pro, choose Import CSV. Payee, amount, memo and date columns are detected automatically.
  3. Print the batch, one check per page or 3 per page. Each check gets the next number and goes into the register.
  4. Record the payments in QuickBooks with the same check numbers.

Need just one check? Print it free on blank stock, with your MICR line and amount in words.

Questions

Why are my QuickBooks checks printing off-center?

Usually the PDF viewer or printer scales the page. Print at 100% / Actual size, then redo the alignment sample.

Can QuickBooks print 3 checks per page?

Yes, that's the standard check type in Print setup. Voucher checks print one per page with two stubs.
